2024 has been a year filled with shocking and difficult news stories. Many of us find that the news makes us anxious and we either avoid it or cant stop watching it. In today’s world, it can feel like we’re constantly bombarded with graphic information, explicit imagery and upsetting stories, especially through the news and social media.
The World Health Organisation has reported that constant news checking can make us feel more stressed and anxious, and other studies show that social media news can contribute to increased panic reactions. Although staying informed and educated is important, we often can struggle with the awfulness of the news, the pull of social media and the need to understand what is happening in the world. How do we unplug ourselves? How do we identify what is true and avoid “fake news” and how do we ensure we are informed without being exhausted by the awfulness of the news.
If you want to engage with Current affairs but are struggling with managing this and understanding the world around us then come along for some enlightened and empathic discussion with others who feel the same.
