Here at Centred, the leading mental health charity in the Highlands, is offering an opportunity to help shape how mental health support is delivered in the Highlands.
Whilst we mark Mental Health Awareness Week, we are looking for new recruits for our board of trustees.
The board provides governance, accountability and long-term vision for Centred, and we are now serving an ever-growing number of communities.
Mental Health Crisis
Scotland faces a mental health crisis affecting an increasing number of people each year, while the Highlands has one of the country’s highest suicide rates.
At the same time, funding for mental health support and the number of beds for mental health patients are both falling.
Centred plays a leading role in tackling this challenge through community support, drop-in mental wellbeing centres, a residential support unit and care at home programmes.
The charity helps thousands of people each year, including at the pioneering Discovery College initiative in Inverness and Caithness.
Board Influence
Centred’s board of trustees’ duties include helping to set the charity’s policy, strategic direction and targets as well as evaluating its performance.
It also set policies and procedures for activities, including guidance for the board, volunteers and staff, and monitoring financial affairs.
Who Can Apply?
Volunteer trustees can come from all walks of life across the Highlands.
No previous experience of serving on a board is necessary, just a willingness to bring personal and professional skills to help Centred’s objectives.
The time commitment for the role can vary depending upon the needs of the organisation.
There are six meetings each year to attend and all expenses are reimbursed, or trustees can join via video link if required.
