JOB TITLE: Volunteer
LOCATION: The Discovery College, Inverness
COMMITMENT: 1 Full Day or Half Day per week. Flexible hours available.
The Discovery College provides welcoming spaces where people can connect, learn and build confidence as part of their recovery and wellbeing journey.
We are looking for friendly and approachable volunteers to help create a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone who comes through our doors.
ROLE SUMMARY
As a Discovery College Volunteer, you will offer informal peer support through listening, conversation and encouragement. You will help people feel welcome, connect with others and get involved in Discovery College activities.
You may also:
- Welcome and support people using the Discovery College Lounge.
- Encourage positive wellbeing conversations and connection with others.
- Promote Discovery College courses, activities and events.
- Signpost people to further support where appropriate.
- Assist with refreshments, learning materials and ensuring the lounge space is a welcoming environment.
Where appropriate, you may draw on your own lived experience to support others. This is not a counselling or clinical role, and you will be supported to maintain appropriate boundaries.

Lived experience of mental health challenges, or supporting someone with mental health challenges is welcomed, but not essential.

You will also have access to free Discovery College courses and can receive a reference following successful volunteering.
