The Recovery Centre, part of Centred charity, is the first of its kind in Scotland, providing residential support for up to 23 adults with acute mental health needs.
While our aim at Centred is to support people at home or through our drop-in centres, some people need more intensive care.
The Recovery Centre provides support and respite in a non-clinical setting, with our residents able to stay as long as needed to aid their recovery.
The Recovery Centre was in great need of an internal makeover to upgrade some tired areas of the building which are heavily used by both residents and staff.
Following a successful grant application to B&Q, the Recovery Centre was awarded a fantastic £7,500 to cover the cost of the materials and labour to complete the transformation.
The grant funded a large painting and decorating project to improve the interior walls, doors and ceilings of the centre. This included making the internal spaces much more inviting and homely than they were before including the corridors, communal bathrooms, toilets and games room which are heavily used by the residents. The staff area was also upgraded.

Our residents at the centre suffer from enduring mental health challenges which impact their daily lives. Whilst this project can’t resolve their individual issues, it will help towards improving mood and wellbeing, by providing a brighter, calmer, modern place that they call home. Colours were carefully chosen to create a light, brighter and calming palette of beautiful colours.

The Recovery Centre residents also benefit greatly from an outdoor garden space which helps create daily routine, encourages healthy habits and spending time outside, helping improve wellbeing and confidence.
To make further improvements the Recovery Centre Gardener is looking for materials to build the a base and planters for a greenhouse to allow them to grow more food for the residents.

If anyone has any spare materials, leftovers from a project, or would be willing to donate any of these materials, we’d be incredibly grateful. Please just get in touch with us at fundraising@centred.scot
